"Nova the Robot Builds a Friend," by David Kirk (Grosset & Dunlap $6.99) is a board book by the author of the Miss Spider series. Live close to the land through the work of this amazing artist. The author reveals the joy of discovery - from the variety of life underground to the comfort of a greenhouse on a winter's day. "A Gardener's Alphabet," by Mary Azarian (Houghton Mifflin $5.95), has exquisite colored woodblock pictures of a gardener's life. Counting, ABCs, seasons, colors, numbers, body parts.the list goes on. "The Everything Book," by Denise Fleming (Henry Holt $5.95), is a board book that introduces many, many concepts. I hope you agree with me that these are a superior batch of offerings. Often I feel as though I'm just throwing a dart at a map, like that reporter for NBC.
